REVIEW OF FOREIGN COURT DECISIONS
There are many citizens who contact us to request help to make sure that the foreign court decisions are applicable to them in Portugal
The most common processes are the review of divorces decided by foreign courts (when the couple has their marriage registered in Portugal but apply for a divorce in a another country) and adoption cases granted in countries other than Portugal (when the adoption documents need to be registered in Portugal).
General Information
All divorce proceedings taking place in a foreign country involving Portuguese nationals or a Portuguese national and a foreign national, must be reviewed and confirmed by a Portuguese Court.
A Portuguese Lawyers is required to process divorce registrations.
Process - Registration of Foreign Divorce Decrees in Portugal
Required Documents:

Divorces require rulings by the judicial authorities of the country in which the Portuguese national and ex-spouse live.

The original divorce court decision ( The Deed of settlement has to be included), this needs to be a certified copy with the courts apostille.

This court decision has to be translated to Portuguese by an Sworn Translator (the Portuguese Consulate may help in this regards)

A Power of Attorney;

Both parties full address in order for the Portuguese Court to send a registered letter;
Once the sentence is confirmed, the court informs the Registry Office to endorse the ruling on the national’s birth certificate
